Jaume Bertranpetit, PhD is a Professor of Biology since 1998 at the Medicine and Life Sciences (MELIS) Department at the Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona). Since September 2022, he has been the Emeritus Professor and Group leader in the Evolutionary Biology and Complex Systems Program at the University.
His research field is the study of human genome variation, diversity and evolution: human population genetics, molecular evolution, comparative genomics and the interaction between human evolutionary biology and other fields, including medicine, genetics of complex diseases, statistical genetics and others. Recent publications are mainly on the footprint of natural selection in the human genome, the emerging field of Evolutionary Systems Biology (with the relationship of molecular networks and adaptation in a genome-wide perspective) microbiome and genetic studies in hunter-gatherers. He has published over 350 research papers and his last work is on hunter-gatherers in Asia with two published papers on the oral microbiome of the Agta in the Philippines.
